KKN UNS Team Created Simple Waste Filter and Liquid Fertilizer from Tempe Waste

UNS — Solving the tempe waste in Sibalung Village, Kemrajen Subdistrict, Banyumas District, Team 15 of Student Community Service Program (KKN) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta created a simple waste filter and processed waste into liquid fertilizer.

The tempe waste results from tempe industry in the village that dispose unprocessed waste into the environment. The solution proposed by the team is expected to reduce the number of the disposed waste and improve waste quality to mitigate its negative impact on the environment. Thus, the community can get benefit from their waste.

“The main target of this program is to change the community that initially views waste as ‘enemy’ to ‘make peace’ with waste,” Bayu, a member of the team, explained on Sunday (28/2/2021).

To implement their program, the team supervised by Dr. Ir. Sigit Prabawa, M.Si., collaborated with Women Farmer Group (Kelompok Wanita Tani) Sibalung Village and tempe producers in the village. They work together to provide training and create a prototype for an example for the community. This process took two weeks to complete because January – February KKN 2021 did not allow students to stay in the village due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Besides these programs, the team has other key and supporting programs, such as Socializing Wedang Uwuh as a healthy beverage, Cultivation of Family Medicinal Plants (Toga), Composter Production to Reduce Household Waste, Geographic Information System Training in Healthcare, and Producing Hand Sanitizer Dispenser with Simple Pedal System.

“The final objective of our programs is to improve the health of Sibalung villagers, especially amid the current pandemic,” Wilis, the Coordinator of Team 15 KKN UNS Banyumas, explained.

Besides Bayu and Wilis, their team also has other members: Hilda, Dewi, Rahman, Adam, Amanda, Ismi, Nofika, and Ridha. Humas UNS
