Alumni Association of English Language and Literature Program FIB Inauguration

UNS — Alumni Association (IKA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta inaugurate the committee for English Language and Literature Program Alumni Association Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) 2021-2024. This inauguration is mentioned in Central IKA UNS Decision Letter No. 2 SK/IKAUNS/D1/2021 and was held offline and online on Saturday  (27/3/2021). The offline ceremony in Seminar Room FIB UNS was attended by IKA UNS Committee, Dean of FIB UNS, Prof. Warto, Head of English Language and Literature Program FIB UNS, Dr. Fitria Akhmerti Primasita, Chief of FIB Alumni Association (KAFIB) UNS, Dra. Dwi Hastuti, and the English Language and Literature Program FIB UNS Alumni Association Committee and members.

In her remark, Dr. Fitria Akhmerti Primasita stated this association is her dream after installed as the Head of English Language and Literature Program. “This is a happy day because finally English Language and Literature Program Alumni Association has an official organization,” she said.

The elected Chief, Joko Nugroho, is an alumnus of the program from 1987. “Hopefully, this organization can improve our awareness, increase our connection, foster information sharing, and develop all alumni talents,” he stated. He also said that because this committee is the first management, there will be challenges and examples for the following committee. “Thus, we need togetherness,” he explained in this remark.

Joko Nugroho believes that with hard works and commitment from all committee members, the new organization will benefit the alumni, Alma mater, and the community. His period aims to strengthen the relationship among the alumni, develop an alumni database, and hold events for students and alumni in industrial briefing and training.

The Dean of FIB UNS, Prof. Warto, welcomed the new organization and its committee and stated that currently, only two FIB programs have an official alumni organization; the Indonesian Language and Literature Program and the English Language and Literature Program. “We hope that the other programs can (can make their alumni association) official to build each program and FIB,” he explained.

Prof. Warto added that the university has four pillars, teacher, student, academic staff, and alumni, similar to a house with its supporting pillars. Thus, these pillars must be stable, and so far, FIB UNS has not managed its fourth pillar, the alumni, well. Alumni hold a vital role in the development of the program, the faculty, and the university. Humas UNS
