BEM FISIP With Censor UNS Held Gelar Webinar on Building Personal Branding

UNS The Student Executive Board (BEM) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, in collaboration with the Center of Social and Political Research (Censor) FISIP UNS, organizes a webinar entitled Build an Outstanding Personal Branding in Digital Era. Bringing up a catchphrase of “Be the real you, be the best of you,” this webinar shares some insights on personal branding in the digital era, which can be useful, especially for students. The event was conducted virtually through the Zoom Cloud Meeting with more than 80 participants on Saturday (22/5/2021). “This webinar on personal branding aims to share the importance of personal branding during this digital era for the general public, especially the millennial generation,” said M. Thoriq Setiawan as the Committee Chairman.

The webinar was led by Rr. Diandri Putri, a student of Communication Science Student Program class of 2019 FISIP UNS. Muflih Dwi Fikri, the CEO & Founder Global Millenial (GM) Group and a student of the International Relations Study Program class of 2017, was invited as the speaker for the event. According to Muflih, building personal branding is needed to determine the aspects we wish for ourselves. Thus, it does not about showing off but also about sharing experiences through stories. “As for Instagram, you can share your stories, struggle, challenges, and you can write them in microblog or post carousel,” Muflih suggested.

Another suggestion is to use other social media platforms such as Linked.in to share your most significant live experience. Determining the right personal branding is also important, as sharing stories through words is suitable for those who do not like to build their image through profile pictures. However, success in building personal branding is not easy to achieve. All individuals must understand the reason behind a failed personal branding. A mentor becomes one of the suggested measures to bring a new perspective and point of view. Additionally, Muflih said that right now, it is easy to find an online mentor or to ask our closest colleagues as a mentor. “Appreciate your failure. Learn from your mistake. Forgive yourself and build something new,” Muflih states.

If personal branding is no longer meets the current personality of someone, it can be changed with a little bit of extra effort. This attempt can be made by erasing the unwanted previous image. “First by building a new circle of friends and colleagues. Meet new people and leaving the previous circle. Deletes all irrelevant photos from your social media,” he added.

Responding to the question from the moderator on the most effective platform to do personal branding for a professional career, Muflih answered that Linkedin is the most suitable platform for this objective.

“If you want to get professional experience, scholarship, and knowing more about professional life (then the answer), it’s Linked.in,” Muflih explains. Humas UNS
