UNS — A Professional Certification Institute (LSP) located within a university environment holds a crucial role in preparing competent graduates and academic members. To support this role, the Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, set an example by enrolling in a competency certification test under the non-fiction book writing category on Wednesday (4/8/2021). This attempt aims to set an example for the UNS academic member to pursue competency certification.
LSP UNS is collaborated with the Professional Certification Institute for Professional Writers and Editors (LSP PEP) alongside the National Agency for Professional Certification (BNSP) to organize competency certification. There are four schemes within the competency test, namely, non-fiction book writing, manuscript editing, acquisition editing, and substantive editing. “To support the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Program, lecturers are required to have various competencies according to the current demands. Right now, I am enrolled for the competency test to earn certification from the National Agency for Professional Certification (BNSP). The effort aims to show that UNS is committed to developing lecturers’ competency for the MBKM Program implementation,” explains Prof. Jamal.
Aside from the Rector of UNS, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS, Prof. Samanhudi, and the Dean of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UNS, Dr. Mardiyana also get enrolled in the competency test. Prof. Samanhudi is enrolled in the non-fiction book writing and substantive editing scheme, while Dr. Mardiyana is enrolled in the non-fiction book writing scheme.
The two participating Deans encourage all lecturers, especially in FP and FKIP UNS, to take the competency certification test. Prof. Samanhudi states that the four competency schemes were attended by Professors and Lecturers in UNS. He added that the tagline ‘do not claim lecturer title if you have not written a book,‘ is suitable and can be an encouragement for UNS academic member to share their idea and innovation with the public.
“Writing a book and scientific publication are routine activities for lecturers. Thus all lecturers must be familiar and competent in writing a book or scientific publication. However, if we have not completed competency certification, then legally and formally, our competency has not yet been recognized,” concluded Prof. Samanhudi. Humas UNS
