UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH, M.Hum., reporting the active contribution performed by UNS to build an economic recovery. These steps were taken to collectively encourage innovation development and raise social capital to rebuild the nation’s social and economic recovery. This report was presented at the UNS Academic Senate Open Session for the 46th UNS Anniversary (Friday, 11/3/2022).
Through the creative economy sector, UNS has actively collaborated with Solo Technopark to build an applied education space and prepare Surakarta MSMEs for onboarding their businesses directly to Indonesia’s creative economy unicorns. “The UNS commitment is symbolized by the inauguration of the 3rd UNS campus gate, directly facing the Solo Technopark,” said Prof. Jamal.
After transforming into Legal Entity State University (PTNBH), UNS continues to work hard to make various adjustments to norms, organization and human resources, and initiating efforts toward World Class University.
Prof. Jamal, in this opportunity, described the hard work of all the UNS academic members in determining the step toward a world-class university. The latest achievement, in 2022, UNS was named by the Times Higher Education (THE) as a world-class university under the Young University Rankings 2022 category.
In 2021, UNS was included in THE Impact Ranking for world-class universities and QS World University Ranking versions. In the same year, UNS was also recognized as the best Higher Education in Business Services Agency by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture. In terms of environmental sustainability, UNS ranked 7th in the 2021 UI GreenMetric award as Sustainability University. In addition, UNS also conducts research into developing alternative energy, Thorium, as an environmentally friendly source of electrical energy.
Today, UNS has 47 Study Programs that are internationally accredited. In the future, there are 14 programs preparing for Accreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik (ASIIN), the Agency for Quality Assurance (AQAS), and the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) accreditation.
Efforts to strengthen research and innovation are not lagging behind. Currently, UNS has 771 intellectual property rights. And other 540 intellectual property rights are in the registration process. There are also 35 IPR/UNS Patents have implemented by the industry/community.
Students also contributed to UNS achievements through their accomplishments on the international scene. Some of the students’ achievements include the I2ASPO, New Delhi, World Population Day Competition, International Biodiversity Competition, ITEX Malaysia, and many others.
Through UNS’s strategies, programs, and activities in its 2nd year as PTNBH and marking the solid rise of UNS to become a world-class university, Prof. Jamal also appealed specifically to the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Ir. Joko Widodo to inaugurate the UNS Tower with the name of Ki Hadjar Dewantara Building.
Prof. Jamal also submitted a request to the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., to receive the 2022 UNS Award ‘Parasamsya Anugraha Dharma Bhakti Upa Bhaksana.’ “This award is given to the Minister for her outstanding contribution to a fair fiscal policy in handling the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
Concluding his report, Prof. Jamal expressed his joy and gratitude to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Joko Widodo, the Head of National Institutions, the Head of Regional Government, leaders and experts from domestic and foreign universities, media leaders and journalists, UNS academic members and alumni, and other officials who have given support and congratulating UNS for the Anniversary.
