UNS — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta is committed to supporting UNS’ efforts to become a World Class University (WCU). One of the forms of this commitment is through collaborations with highly ranked foreign universities according to the QS ranking institution.
To realize this objective, the Dean of FISIP UNS, Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni, M.Sc. along with the Vice Dean for Human Resources, Finance and Logistics FISIP UNS, Dr. Ahmad Zuber, S.Sos., D.E.A. and the Lecturer from the State Administration Study Program FISIP UNS, as well as the Head of UPT International Cooperation and Services UNS, Rino Ardhian Nugroho, S.Sos., M.T.I., Ph.D. visited Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in Sintok, Kedah, Malaysia on 16-18 July 2023. UUM is one of the rapidly developing public universities. In 2023, UUM achieved a QS ranking by subject in the range of 151-200. The rapid growth of UUM has piqued the interest of FISIP UNS to collaborate with the School of Government (SOG) Universiti Utara Malaysia.
“Following a series of interactions between FISIP UNS and SOG UUM, starting with a visiting lecture by Dr. Muslimin Wallang from SOG UUM to UNS in 2020, followed by a student exchange where FISIP UNS students went to SOG UUM in 2021, and most recently, the visiting lecture by Associate Professor Dr. Halimah Abdul Manaf in early 2023,” Prof. Ismi explained.


Then, from July 16 to 18 2023, SOG UUM invited FISIP UNS to participate in academic activities, including visiting lectures and international community services. For the visiting lectures, SOG UUM invited Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni, M.Sc. to deliver a lecture on the theme “Policy Framework for Gender-Sensitive Public Governance in Indonesia”; Dr. Ahmad Zuber, S.Sos., D.E.A. to present on “Public Policy on Rural Development in Indonesia” and Rino Ardhian Nugroho, S.Sos., M.T.I., Ph.D. to discuss “IT Prospects and Challenges in Indonesia Public Sector”.
Subsequently, SOG UUM also engaged the three visiting lectures in the International Community Services program with the theme “International Community Services: Academic Counseling for Malaysian Youth”. This activity involved Malaysian youths with the aim of providing them with perspectives on pursuing careers in the international job market. During these events, both partner universities also agreed to undertake various future activities, such as research collaborations, exchange of lecturers and students, enhancing the quality of academic journals, international community service, and developing a doctoral (S-3) program in Public Administration.
