UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has secured a spot in the top 10 universities with the most teams qualifying for the 37th National Student Scientific Week (Pekan Ilmiah Nasional/Pimnas) in 2024. In the announcement made by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) on Wednesday (28/8/2024), UNS successfully qualified 10 teams for this year’s Pimnas competition. A total of 47 students and 9 faculty mentors from these 10 teams will compete at the event hosted by Universitas Airlangga (Unair) from October 14–19, 2024.
Among these, the UNS Student Creativity Program (Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa/PKM) teams outperformed Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), and Universitas Indonesia (UI). UNS representatives for Pimnas include one team for the Written Futuristic Ideas (GFT) category, two teams for the Creative Initiative (KC) category, three teams for Social Humanities Research (RSH), and the largest number, four teams, in Exact Research (RE). From a faculty perspective, there are three teams from the Faculty of Psychology, three from the Faculty of Engineering (FT), two from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), and two from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP).
The Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof. Ir. Dody Ariawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., shared with uns.ac.id that UNS leadership held an initial meeting and consolidation with the students and faculty mentors who have qualified for Pimnas. This meeting, held at the dr. Prakosa Building, UNS on Tuesday (10/9/2024), marked the kick off of UNS’s preparation program for the 37th Pimnas.
UNS is providing comprehensive support to its students, including training in presentation communication, poster creation, and mental preparation. Additionally, intensive sessions with special trainers will be held to test and provide feedback for each UNS PKM team. Each student team will compete in two categories: PKM presentation and poster competition. Prof. Dody also mentioned that UNS is aiming for significant achievements, aiming to bring home three gold medals. The university has also planned rewards for the teams that achieve medals.
“We will certainly provide rewards for them. The university will offer financial support as an incentive,” Prof. Dody stated on Thursday (12/9/2024).
Furthermore, Prof. Dody emphasized the importance of proper preparation. He encouraged the students to practice their presentations and work on their posters diligently. Feedback from mentors and trainers would offer fresh perspectives that could help optimize their efforts. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining health, given that the competition is less than a month away.
“Work hard on your presentations and posters. Follow your mentors’ guidance. Most importantly, stay healthy,” he advised.
UNS’s participation in the 37th Pimnas presents an opportunity for the university to achieve Key Performance Indicator (IKU) 2. Success in national-level competitions is an embodiment of IKU 2, which emphasizes gaining experiences outside of campus. Pimnas serves as a platform for students to present their PKM projects and engage in intellectual exchanges on a national scale.
This year, the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI), Puspresnas, in collaboration with Unair, will organize the 37th Pimnas. Pimnas is part of the evaluation stages for PKM proposals and the PKM Implementation Progress Evaluation (PKP2), which are carried out by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa), the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dikti), and the Directorate of Vocational Education.
Following the announcement, all participants who have qualified for the 37th Pimnas in 2024 must complete their registration on the website https://daftar-bpti.kemdikbud.go.id, managed by their respective university operators. Participants must then upload their documents to the application at https://pimnas.kemdikbud.go.id. After completing both steps, re-registration on the Pimnas website at Unair can be done via https://pimnas37.unair.ac.id.
