UNS — Dr. Deny Tri Ardianto, Dipl.Art., Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design (FSRD) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, has been entrusted with the position of Chair of the Indonesian Arts Educators Association (APSI) for the Solo Raya Region for the 2024-2027 term. The inauguration ceremony was held at the H.B. Soetopo Hall, FSRD UNS, on Thursday (10/10/2024), and was attended by APSI’s National Chair, Dr. Agus Cahyono, M.Hum.

Dr. Deny stated that APSI Solo Raya contributes to the advancement of the arts through education, serving as a bridge between educational institutions and the government to foster collaborations in arts and cultural events. The APSI team, comprising educators, researchers, and art practitioners, seeks to map the unique artistic potential across regions in Solo Raya.

“Our focus at APSI is academic, aiming at the development and preservation of cultural arts. We also provide policy recommendations for cultural mapping within Solo Raya,” Dr. Deny said.

National APSI Chair, Dr. Agus Cahyono, M.Hum., hoped that APSI Solo Raya would actively contribute to the development and preservation of Indonesian art and culture. He encouraged expanding networks, suggesting that APSI Solo Raya could establish connections among institutions and even internationally within the creative industry.

In conjunction with the inauguration, FSRD UNS hosted an international seminar titled “The Role of Creative Industries in Driving ASEAN Economic Growth.” Speakers included Dr. Agus Cahyono, M. Hum., an academic from Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes); Dr. Mohd. Asyiek Bin Mat Desa from Universiti Sains Malaysia; Khwanrat Chinda, Ph.D., from Poh-Chang Academy of Art, Thailand; and Dr. Nguyen Dac Thai from Van Lang University, Vietnam.

The seminar addressed the rapid growth of the creative industries in various countries, especially in the ASEAN region. ASEAN countries are seen as culturally rich with abundant creative human resources. It is also crucial in strengthening economies. With advancements in digital technology, the creative industry has gained greater potential for innovation and development, enhancing the global competitiveness of ASEAN countries. Active contributions and closer collaboration among various sectors are essential to fully leveraging this potential.

Dr. Deny highlighted that the seminar is part of FSRD UNS’s efforts to promote the creative industry. As a forum for discussion, the collaboration between UNS, APSI, and universities in the ASEAN region explored opportunities, challenges, and strategies to position the creative industry as a key driver of economic growth.

“With cross-sector and cross-country collaboration, the creative industry in ASEAN is expected to catalyze more inclusive and sustainable economic development. Active partnerships with various stakeholders are crucial. As an educational institution in the arts, we can work together to design policy recommendations that support the strengthening of the creative economy in the ASEAN region,” Dr. Deny explained.
