UNS Achieves Rank 2 Among Best State Universities by THE WUR 2025

UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has been ranked as the second-best state university in Indonesia by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) 2025. According to its official website, THE WUR 2025 has released the list of top universities worldwide, including institutions in Indonesia.

As reported by www.kompas.com/edu , a total of 45 Indonesian state and private universities made it onto the THE WUR 2025 rankings. Ibrahim Fatwa Wijaya, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Director of UNS’s Directorate of Planning, Cooperation, Internationalization, and Reputation, highlighted that this year’s THE WUR assessed more than 2.000 institutions across 115 countries and regions, adding 185 new entries compared to the previous year. The ranking evaluation was based on 157 million citations, 18 million research publications, and survey responses from over 93.000 academics worldwide.

In this year’s rankings, UNS was the second-best state university in Indonesia, placing within the 1201-1500 range globally. “Alhamdulillah, UNS ranks as the second-best state university in Indonesia, alongside Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Universitas Airlangga (Unair), and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). The top position for state universities is held by Universitas Indonesia (UI),” Ibrahim explained on Monday (28/10/2024).

Ibrahim added that the methodology used for evaluation included academic or teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.

“With this achievement, we extend our gratitude for the support and prayers of the entire UNS leadership, lecturers, staff, students, and alumni. We hope UNS’s accomplishments will continue to grow both nationally and internationally,” Ibrahim stated.
