UNS Confucius Institute Hosts Workshop for Mandarinable and Maobi Journals

UNSThe Mandarin Language Center (PBM)/Confucius Institute at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organized a workshop to improve the management quality of the Mandarinable and Maobi journals at UNS Tower. The event was attended by PBM/Confucius Institute leaders, editorial teams of journals, lecturers, and representatives of undergraduate students from the Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture program and the Mandarin Language diploma program.

The workshop featured speakers from the UNS Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM), including Dr. Kukuh Tejomurti, S.H., LL.M., Chair of the Journal Development Unit (UPJ), and Teguh Endah Saraswati, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Scientific Journal Accreditation Division. The event aimed to prepare the journals for accreditation.

In his opening remarks, the Interim Head of the UNS Mandarin Language Center, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S., expressed hope that Mandarinable and Maobi journals could eventually achieve indexing in Scopus with proper management.

Dr. Fan Jie, the Chinese Director of the Mandarin Language Center, shared optimism about the future of the journals. “Through journal evaluations, these publications will continue to develop well,” he said during the workshop held on December 23, 2024.

Dr. Kukuh Tejomurti, Chair of the UPJ at UNS LPPM, noted that Mandarinable and Maobi have a distinct advantage by using Mandarin, one of UNESCO’s official languages. He emphasized four key pillars necessary for achieving Scopus indexing: registration, verification, repository, and dissemination. Dr. Kukuh highlighted that Mandarinable has strong potential for Scopus indexing, as it has already been cited by authors from international Q1 and Q2 journals.

Teguh Endah Saraswati, Head of the Scientific Journal Accreditation Division, shared practical steps for securing national journal accreditation. She noted UNS’s strong support for journal development, including journals managed by the Mandarin Language Center. Mandarinable was first published in April 2022 and has since released six issues, while Maobi, launched in November 2023, has published four issues to date.

This initiative demonstrates UNS’s commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which focuses on providing quality education. The effort to improve journal management aims to enhance academic publication standards and their contributions to the broader community.
