Accelerate Digital Industry 4.0, Ministry of Industry Establishes Partnership with UNS

UNS — The Government of Indonesia is making accelerated steps to realize the Industry 4.0 initiative. One of the steps taken was encouraging universities to work together to achieve this objective. Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta is one of the universities invited to collaborate with the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) in accelerating industry 4.0.

The cooperation between UNS and Kemenperin was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Kemenperin through the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) on Wednesday (2/3/2022). The signatory ceremony was carried out in a hybrid manner at Conference Room II of Dr. Prakosa Building UNS and virtually through the Zoom Cloud Meetings application.

Attending the signing were the Head of BPSDMI, Arus Gunawan, and the Director of the Indonesian Digital Industry Center (PIDI) 4.0, Tirta Wisnu Permana. The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, accompanied by UNS Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Sajidan, M. Si., and the Director of Partnership, Development, and Internationalization UNS, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, Ph.D., were also present to welcome this partnership.

The Minister of Industry (Menperin), Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, who attended the ceremony virtually, said that the effort to accelerate the implementation of Industry 4.0 requires the universities’ role. Innovation and research input and results from higher education are helping the industrial world to grow continuously. “To ensure sustainable innovation, we must dare to invest heavily into the world of research and knowledge. This aspect is where the importance of universities’ role in providing innovation and research for the growth of the industry lies. The results of the research will not only serve as academic work but can have a strong effect on product and business development,” said Menperin through Zoom.

Menperin continues that in addition to collaboration in research and innovation, universities are also needed to develop qualified human resources. An important factor needed to develop human resources is the skills and competencies of prospective graduates. He also explained that the Ministry of Industry had built a PIDI 4.0 infrastructure that was expected to accelerate the development of industry 4.0 and industrial human resources. The PIDI 4.0 is a one-roof solution for industrial application in Indonesia. “I appreciate UNS participation in PIDI 4.0 that was strengthened today by signing the cooperation and MoU. I see that there are many prospective collaborative activities between UNS and PIDI 4.0, including industrial human resource development, SKKNI curriculum, development, and 4.0 prototyping before industrial application. I congratulate you on this partnership,” said Menperin.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal, welcomes this partnership. The focus of the partnership between UNS and Kemenperin is the development of industrial human resources and digital transformation to realize government initiatives in Making Indonesia 4.0. “BPSDMI and UNS have a common program in an effort to accelerate the fulfillment of superior and wholesome HR quality, as stated by the President. I hope that the cooperation between UNS and BPSDMI can produce beneficial innovations to develop a learning system that is relevant to industrial teaching character and science in the present and future,” stated Prof. Jamal.

The cooperation between UNS and the Ministry of Industry will be valid for three years. During this time, many things will be conducted. Some of the planned collaborations are the development of industrial human resources with training for trainers; the provision of product demonstrations to be placed in PIDI 4.0; the development of education, training curricula, and training; the development of cooperation programs and projects; joint research; the facilitation of internship programs and Industrial Work Practices (Prakerin); and competency certification.

This memorandum signatory ceremony was followed by signing of a cooperation agreement between the Kemenperin Industrial Human Resources Training and Education Center and the Faculty of Engineering UNS. The partnership will be implemented in the form of industrial human resources development related to industry 4.0 and the provision of product demonstrations in PIDI 4.0. Humas UNS
