UNS — Bird Watcher Study Group “Albatros” of Biology Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a National Webinar Avifauna pm ‘A Story from Raptor’ on Saturday (1/8/2020) through Zoom Meeting and live stream in Biology Education Program UNS YouTube channel. The webinar was led by the Faculty member of Biology Education Program UNS, Dewi Puspita Sari, M.Sc. and invited three speakers, Asman Adi Purwanto from BISA Indonesia and Raptor Indonesia, Ignatius Dwi Wardhana who is a Wildlife Photographer, and Gito Hadiprayitno from Universitas Mataram. The webinar was attended by more than 90 participants from various institutions and professions, students, academicians, photographers, researchers, bird watchers, government institution such as BKSDA, National Park Board, KLHK, and NGO (Non-Government Organization) in Raptor conservation from all over Indonesia.
The event was opened by Dr. Muzzazinah, M. Si. as the Head of Biology Education Program FKIP UNS followed by the presentation of materials. Asman Adi Purwanto as the first speaker discussed the Raptor Migration in Indonesia. The raptor or birds of prey migrates as a response on its environment and as a cycle of life. Migration occurs during September – March or the autumn migration and on March – April or spring migration. Gito Hadiprayitno, as the second speaker, discussed the conservation of Raptor Otus jolandae or Celepuk Rinjani, the endemic and protected bird from Lombok. He mentioned that he studies the bioecological aspect, characteristics of habitat, and the conservation strategy for the bird.
The material on photography technique to capture the discussed bird was delivered by Ignatius Dwi Wardhana who explained that wildlife photography aims to document natural history as a means to archive, provide supporting media for research, and delivering a message. To capture a picture of living or moving objects photographers need to pay attention to ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. They also need to pay attention to animal’s behavior in the wildlife, there is a difference in taking pictures of predatory and non-predatory animals. Humas UNS
