UNS – The Bengawan UV (BUV) Team from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has officially launched three new vessels for the upcoming 2024 Indonesian Boat Contest (KKI). The launch event took place on Friday (11/10/2024), both at the UNS Dr. Prakosa Building and UNS Lake.
For the 2024 KKI competition, set to be held from October 23-28 at the Politeknik Perkapalan Negeri Surabaya (PPNS), the BUV Team will participate with three teams in different competition categories. Ramadhani Suryanto, Technical Manager of the Naval Team BUV, explained that the first team will compete with an Electric Remote Control (ERC) vessel named El-Moana Roseus, the second team with a Fuel Engine Remote Control (FERC) vessel named Oceanos Helena, and the third team with an Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) named Neph Ship Austus.
The ERC vessel, El-Moana Roseus, themed after a Platform Supply Vessel, is designed to cross open waters while carrying a 2 kg load. The vessel weighs 5 kg and is made from carbon composite fibers and PVC. It is powered by a 25-volt lithium polymer battery with a 2000 KV brushless motor, capable of propelling the vessel at speeds up to 11,9 m/s on water. Dandi Exada, a 2022 Mechanical Engineering student, will remotely control it.
The Oceanos Helena FERC vessel is designed to transport a 5 kg buoy safely and efficiently across open waters. It is equipped with a 32 cc Zenoah two-stroke engine that can reach speeds of 11,93 m/s. The vessel is powered by gasoline with an RON 98 rating mixed with oil. Giedalta Scoundra, a 2022 Mechanical Engineering student, will control the vessel in this category.
The third category, the ASV vessel Neph Ship Austus, operates autonomously without remote control during its mission. Its tasks include tracking floating balls, capturing images of the surface and underwater panoramas, and automatically docking at a pier. Weighing 13,6 kg, the vessel has a mini-computer that automatically controls its movements, cameras, and GPS as sensors and a live monitoring system.

UNS Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof. Ir. Dody Ariawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., attended the launch and expressed his hope that the BUV UNS team will achieve excellent results and bring pride to UNS in the 2024 KKI.
“Good luck to all of you. I hope you achieve the best results and make the university proud. In addition to focusing on the competition, I encourage you to start exploring the start-up realm, as Bengawan has many products with significant value, which would be a missed opportunity if not developed further,” Prof. Dody said.
Prof. Dr. Triyono, S.T., M.T., one of the team’s advisors, expressed his pride in the BUV UNS team’s progress and enthusiasm. “We must stay motivated because, in the past two months, the team has achieved several victories. I hope this winning tradition continues. Thank you to everyone for their hard work in preparing for this. These efforts should be accompanied by prayer and trust,” Prof. Triyono added.
During the launch event, BUV Team UNS General Manager, Daffa Putra Islami, also extended his gratitude for the support received from the university and sponsors.
“We will compete against 20 teams from other universities in the 2024 KKI finals. Thank you to the university and our sponsors for supporting us and funding the team to participate in this competition,” Daffa said.
The Indonesian Boat Contest (KKI) is an annual competition focusing on technological innovation in ship design, prototype creation, and performance evaluation in the maritime technology field. The competition is organized by the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI), the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas), and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek).
