Blood Donation: UNS Concern for Covid-19

UNS — Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held blood donation under the theme ‘UNS Concern for Covid-19 – Safe Others’. In collaboration with the Indonesia Red Cross (PMI). The donation was held in G.P.H. Haryo Mataram Auditorium UNS, Tuesday (29/12/2020).

In this blood donation, UNS also conducted data collection on UNS staff who recovered from Covid-19 as a potential plasma convalescent donor to help colleagues with severe Covid-19 symptoms. In his remark, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho stated that plasma convalescent donor is desperately needed to help patients with Covid-19.

“After we surveyed, there are 27 academic members who are willing to be donors of plasma convalescent. These 27 academic members have recovered from Covid-19,” Prof. Jamal explained.

To support the event, Prof. Jamal invited all executive board, teachers, academic staff, students, and alumni of UNS andCovid-19 survivors to donate their blood following the determined schedule. The donation applied health protocol with the schedule for FH, FEB, FKIP, and FP on 08.30-10-30 am and for FT, FISIP, FMIPA, and FKOR at 10.30 am -12.30 pm.

“At 12.30 – 13.00 is used for break and 13.00 – 15.30 is for FSRD, FIB, FK, Bureau, Institutes, Vocational School, Postgraduate, UNS Hospital, and UPT,” Prof. Jamal, who was also donating in the event, explained.

The person in charge of the event, Prof. Reviono, added that during the Covid-19 pandemic, PMI stock has declined. Especially nearing the new year, it is predicted that the demand will increase. “This event shows UNS concerns for others. Hopefully, this event will benefit others. As a committee, we thank all UNS academic members who have participated in this blood donation event, and Alhamdulillah, the donors are enthusiastic about joining today,” Prof. Reviono stated.
