UNS — At its relatively young age, Statistics Program Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has recorded various proud achievements. The newest achievement of this program is obtained by two of its young students, Muhammad Zidni Subarkah and Ni Kadek Mirah Budayani from the Class of 2019.
Zidni and Mirah successfully won the 2nd position in National Statistics Infographic Competition (KIS) STATFEST 2021 held by Himasta UGM Yogyakarta. EMZI’s Result Team supervised by Drs. Isnandar Slamet, M.Sc., Ph.D. was announced as the 2nd champion on Saturday (10/4/2021). As the team leader, Mirah explained that in the competition with Capture Your Data, Ready to Face Rapid Growth World theme, they create an infographic on “Goes to Zero Plastic Waste”. They hoped that their work would build public awareness of the danger and issues of plastic waste.
“Thus, we can achieve Indonesia’s target to reduce 70% of plastic waste in 2025 together,” she said to uns.ac.id, Tuesday (13/4/2021).
Their exciting and colorful design contains information on the primary and secondary plastic waste production in Indonesia and its impact, plastic waste handling rate, suggested handling method, and other data from Our World in Data (2018), katadata.com (2019), and binus.ac.id (2019). Zidni shared the excellence of their work, the uniqueness of its design representing a universe, from under the soil, earth, and outer space.
“A good infographic presents interesting information and easy to be comprehended by the reader, and contains words that support and convince readers through visualized information,” Zidni added.
He also mentioned that he and Mirah must compete with ten teams from various universities in Indonesia after the elimination round. He thanked their supervisor and faculty members of the Statistics Program and friends for supporting them. They also hope that more students could create and collaborate in the national and international level competition in the future.
“Hopefully, Statistics Program can continue to develop in achieving excellence and make UNS proud,” Zidni said.
Statistics Festival or STATFEST is an annual program from Himasta FMIPA UGM. Its name before 2020 was Semnastat and ONS. Besides KIS, there are two other competitions: Statistics National Olympiad (ONS) and the Statistics Essay Competition (KES). Humas UNS
