UNS – Coinciding with the 48th Dies Natalis of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, the UNS Mandarin Language Center (PBM) / Confucius Institute (CI) celebrated their 5th anniversary. The 5th anniversary of PBM UNS was held both physically and virtually at Solia Zigna on Friday (3/8/2024). During the event, the launch of the ‘Maobi’ Journal was also conducted.
In attendance at the 5th anniversary celebration were Acting Rector of UNS, Dr. Chatarina Muliana, S.H., S.E., M.H.; Acting Head of UNS Mandarin Language Center, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yunus, M.S.; Acting Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information at UNS, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, Ph.D.; Rektor of Xihua University, Prof. Li Jiushe; Vice Rektor of Xihua University, Prof. Fei Ling; and the Director of PBM UNS from China, Mrs. Fan Jie.
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yunus, M.S., the Acting Head of UNS Mandarin Language Center, stated in his speech that since its establishment in 2019, the PBM UNS / Confucius Institute (CI) has bridged the gap between the two countries’ communities to get to know each other. PBM UNS serves as a platform for Indonesian teachers and students to learn Mandarin and understand Chinese culture, thus strengthening the good relations between China and Indonesia.
All UNS leaders expressed their gratitude to all parties involved in the development of PBM UNS, which has been extraordinary in its five years of existence, especially to Xihua University, which has played a crucial role in facilitating UNS students to participate in the 2+2 or 3+2 programs in China. “We also express our gratitude to all PBM UNS teaching points for their excellent cooperation. With more PBM UNS teaching points, we hope to provide more opportunities and places to teach culture and Mandarin,” Prof. Yunus explained.
Prof. Yunus hoped that in the coming years, PBM UNS would play a more active role in the development of Mandarin language education and Chinese culture internationally and in the wider community. Hopefully, more partners can cooperate with CI to help UNS become a world-class university. “I also congratulate the launch of the Maobi Journal; hopefully, in its journey ahead, this journal can implement the tridharma of higher education nationally and globally,” Prof. Yunus added.
Prof. Irwan Tri Nugroho, the Acting Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information at UNS, stated that the establishment of the PBM at UNS has made many contributions to UNS and society in both academic and non-academic fields.
“Through various activities such as international seminars, Chinese cultural celebrations, Javanese-Bashu cultural exchanges, and Mandarin language teaching at universities and several teaching points in Central Java, PBM UNS is now not only well-known in Central Java but also throughout Indonesia and internationally,” Prof. Irwan said.
Dr. Chatarina Muliana, S.H., S.E., M.H., the Acting Rector of UNS, expressed her congratulations on the 5th anniversary of PBM UNS. PBM UNS, in collaboration with Xihua University in Chengdu, China, has achieved remarkable success in enhancing the credibility and integrity between the two universities through its role in various implemented programs.
“Our hope is that the UNS Mandarin Language Center will become better known to all layers of society through its outstanding achievements and play a significant role in encouraging public enthusiasm to participate and collaborate in the organized activities,” Dr. Chatarina said. HUMAS UNS
