UNS – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta together with the School of Government Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) held an International Guest Lecture. The International Guest Lecture activity carried the theme “Leadership Style in Public University to Foster International Research Network Lesson Learned From Indonesia and Malaysia”. The event was held offline at the 2nd Floor Hall of the M. Sartono Building FISIP UNS and online through a Zoom Meeting on Monday (29/5/2023).
This activity was opened by the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S. “The holding of the International Guest Lecture is a form of research collaboration established between FISIP UNS and the UUM School of Government. Apart from that, with this activity, it is hoped that we can develop research collaboration to support the internationalization process,” Prof. Yunus said.
On this occasion, two speakers were presented, namely Prof. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni, M.Sc. as the Dean of FISIP UNS and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halimah Abdul Manaf as the Dean of the UUM School of Government. The event was guided by Dr. Faizatul Ansoriyah, S.Sos., M.Sc.
Prof. Ismi as the Dean of FISIP UNS explained how leadership can grow international research networks and how to grow international research networks. She said that several previous studies showed that leadership was a central factor in encouraging the creation of a strong international research network. This is because a leader has the ability to create a conducive environment for every academic community to conduct research and facilitate various opportunities for cooperation, as described in the term “Corporate Environments Impact Individual Creativity”.
“We have agreed that international research collaboration is one of the ways that we can do so that universities continue to exist and have an impact in the era of internationalization of higher education which has been particularly occurring in ASEAN countries for the last two decades. Besides encouraging this process, this international research collaboration can also provide other benefits in the field of higher education,” Prof. Ismi said.
Furthermore, the second speaker, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halimah Abdul Manaf as the Dean of the UUM School of Government explained about “Leadership Style in Higher Education and How is Distributive Leadership Practiced To Foster International Research Network?”.
“Organizational culture includes mutual trust, freedom of opinion, collective decision-making, and cooperation. For leadership practices, namely professional development, leadership opportunities and providing future leaders,” Prof. Halima concluded.
After the presentation of material from the speakers, the event continued with a question and answer session with offline and online participants. Then it was closed with a photo session together. Humas UNS
