UNS — A student of Master Program in Indonesian Language Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won a national level competition. Eko Setyawan won 3rd place in the Poetry Writing Competition organized by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Warmadewa, Bali.
This activity was held to commemorate the 37th Anniversary of the FISIP Alumni Board, Universitas Warmadewa. The championship, entitled Jayastamba National Poetry Competition, was attended by hundreds of participants from all over Indonesia.
The competition started with a registration stage, submission of manuscripts, judges assessment, and announcements. As announced on Wednesday (29/12/2021), Eko managed to become one of the champions in this competition. In this event, Eko wrote a poem entitled “Rekuiem Karna to Batara Surya, His Father.” Eko explained that the poem he wrote explains and interprets the turmoil of a puppet character, namely the character Karna.
“This poem is trying to interpret the shackles of hegemony in the wayang character, as suggested by one of the characters, namely Karna,” explained Eko in an interview. For the achievements he got, Eko was happy. “It is thrilling because the competition is held by one of the universities in Bali and taking on the topic of hegemony. A little scary and calculating,” he further explained.
In the future, Eko wants to continue writing and publish a book of poetry or short stories collection. “In the future, I wish to continue writing and will publish books, both poetry and short stories,” concluded Eko. Humas UNS
