UNS – The Faculty of Sports (FKOR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta started the stages of selection on 108 prospective students for the Special Sport Class (Kelas Khusus Olahraga – KKO) SMP Negeri (SMPN) 1 Surakarta, Tuesday (16/6/2020) morning. The selection process started on 16 June and lasts until 18 June.
The first day of selection, prospective students are asked to join the document verification stage. They were required to complete the documents that consist of biodata, Child Identity Card (Kartu Identitas Anak – KIA) Surakarta, Family Record of Surakarta resident, Birth Certificate, grades average of 7, drug-free test, and photo.
Next, the prospective students will be divided into several groups, each consists of 18-27 prospective students. This step is taken to prevent the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) infection according to the health protocol suggested by the government.
In a meeting with uns.ac.id, the Dean of FKOR UNS. Dr. Sapta Kunta, stated that his party becomes one of the parties who are responsible for the new student admission for KKO SMPN 1 Surakarta. “KKO at the SMP level in Surakarta will be performed in SMPN 1 Surakarta. This morning there was a psychology test and tomorrow there will be physical test and anthropometry to test their potential and talents. Today, the psychology test was handled by FKOR faculty members,” Dr. Sapta Kunta stated.
Besides conducting the prospective student selection in SMPN 1 Surakarta, Dr. Sapta Kunta also explained that FKOR UNS is responsible to conduct coaching for KKO SMPN 1 Surakarta students in their first year. This aims to ensure that students selected sports branch that matches their ability during the selection process. The sports branch offered in the selection process consists of five individual sports, five self-defense options, and two team sports. The offered sport branches are athletics, swimming, archery, table tennis, tennis, Pencak silat, karate, fencing, judo, taekwondo, volleyball, and soccer.
In a separate meeting, the managing committee of KKO SMPN 1 Surakarta student admission from the Office of Youth and Sport (Dinas Pemuda dan Olahraga – Dispora), Sugeng Haryadi, S. Pd, M. Or, stated that in the selection process, his party received 115 applications from prospective students. But 7 applicants did not pass the administrative process.
He also added that this year is the fourth year of KKO SMPN 1 Surakarta admission as a form of cooperation between FKOR UNS and Surakarta City Dispora. As the managing committee of the selection process, he felt that from the first year of the program in 2017, the partnership with FKOR UNS has run smoothly.
“From when the Major wanted a center for sports coaching, we had conducted a comparative study to SKO Ragunan and Kaltim. We have cooperated with FKOR UNS to formulate this KKO, from the concept until the selection of trainers and athlete selection in 2017 is conducted in collaboration with UNS. This is performed to coach children with talents in the sport who are projected to become outstanding athletes in the future,” Sugeng Haryadi stated.
