UNS – A lecturer from the Pharmacy Study Program, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Syaiful Choiri, S. Farm., M.Pharm.Sci., Apt., had successfully named as the 3rd champion in a national tutorial video making for lectures and practicum championship. The championship organized by the Indonesian Pharmaceutical Higher Education Association (APTFI) on May-June was attended by 40 participants from various pharmaceutical higher education in Indonesia.
Syaiful states that the video making competition organized by APTFI was divided into three categories namely Clinical Science, Social Behaviour and Administration, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The assessment was made on the context and content of the video. Syaiful creates a video on Dissolution Testing.
“This video is a biopharmaceutical learning video in the study of the Comparative Dissolution Test (UDT) topic. UDT is part of the in vitro equivalence test before a pharmaceutical product is marketed and become a requirement before the in vivo equivalence testing. This in vitro dissolution study is urgently needed for product registration by the pharmaceutical industry to the POM Office, especially the drugs that are included in the list of mandatory Bioequivalence tests,” explains Syaiful, Wednesday (24/6/2020).
Through this video, Syaiful hopes that students can be more easily understand the material and can be continued in a live online discussion session to increase student understanding of each material. The tutorial video gives the students opportunity and facilitate students who are constrained by internet signals quality when following an online lectures method during the pandemic era. The asynchronous model with learning videos linked to social media such as Youtube is expected to be an alternative solution when students are constrained by signals quality or limited bandwidth and quota.
“Through this learning video, students are expected to understand the principle of dissolution testing compared both theoretically and practically,” he added.
Syaiful mentioned further that the process of making learning videos, indeed, requires more time and energy for an educator. However, the learning video can increase online learning effectiveness. The video-making process can be done individually by lecturers using MS PowerPoint or Keynote, thus it is not difficult and relatively easy. More integrated support can be provided to make videos more interesting, thus, the paradigm regarding the boredom on the online lecture can be shifted into fun learning. Humas UNS/Dwi
