UNS — An international student from Japan from the Visual Communication Design (DKV) Program, Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Kota Owatari shared his story in a talk show held by International Office UNS. The Talkshow on Global Ambassador (GLAD) UNS was streamed through International Office UNS Instagram Live on Tuesday (8/9/2020).
Kota, the short name for Kota Owatari is currently back in Japan and follow the online learning process. The student who was born in Shizouka, Japan, stated that the time difference between Indonesia and Japan becomes a challenge for him to adapt when collecting his assignments. However, he said that it is not too difficult and that he can manage it.
“My view of Indonesia people, especially in Solo is warm. In Indonesia, people have gotong-royong and people helps others immediately. If friends have difficulties they help directly,” Kota stated.
Further, Kota admitted that he felt helped by his friends who comforted him when he was having difficulties. Besides that, he thinks that his friends have high pride for their country which inspires him to love his country. He thinks that this might be the result of Pancasila values education delivered to the people from early childhood.
The student who has a photography hobby and is a vlogger shared his reason for selecting education in Solo. In his High School year, he met a university teacher who had research on Indonesia cultures and had a conversation with the teacher. From the conversation, he got much advice about Indonesia, and he is interested to study in the country.
“The teacher recommended Solo, he/she said that Solo is rich with history, it is very traditional, and he/she loves Solo. So, I followed his/her recommendation,” Kota added.
Besides shared about his education experience, Kota also discussed several interesting things from Solo such as the culinary attraction. He admitted that he likes Solo cuisines because it is tasty and cheap. This year, UNS accepted 52 foreign students to pursue an education in UNS. Humas UNS
