In order to increase students’ competitiveness at global level, Faculty of Teacher Teaching and Education of Sebelas Maret University (FKIP UNS) officially sends 12 students to three ASEAN countries – Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore – at a send-off event of International Field Practice Experience (PPL), Friday (13/1/2017). The program managed by FKIP Internationalization Unit is in line with UNS efforts towards World Class University (WCU).
Through partnership with Southeast Asian Ministry of Education Organization (SEAMEO) secretariat, FKIP UNS held the third series of program themed “Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia (SEA – Teacher Project) from January 15 until February 13, 2017. The program, organized since 2016, has facilitated PPL overseas, either in form of inter-university student exchange or an assignment in Indonesian schools abroad.
Joko Nurmanto, the dean of FKIP UNS, explained that the program aims at enriching students’ global teacher competencies for tackling demanding job competition. Furthermore, Joko explained that this year, FKIP will send 9 undergraduate students for PPL to partner schools of universities in Thailand and the Philippines, while 3 remaining students are sent to Indonesia School in Singapore based on agreement signed by FKIP UNS and Embassy of The Republic of Indonesia in Singapore. UNS also accepts 5 students from Thailand, who will be placed in a partner school, SMPN 4 Surakarta.
In addition, FKIP UNS will also send 6 undergraduate students majoring in Special Education for a month of PPL to National University of Malaysia (UKM) in upcoming March. Other supplementary events will be held during the program such as Joint Seminar, Research and Publication, Visiting Professor, and Student Exchange. (denty/eln/oss.red.uns.ac.id)
