UNS — Student Community Service Program (KKN) Team 47 Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta in Semawung Kembaran Village, Kutoarjo Subdistrict, Purworejo District encourage the optimization of community ability amid the Covid-19 pandemic through various activities.
During their 45 days of service, Team 74 KKN UNS, under the supervision of Johadi S.E., M.Sc implemented various programs, such as catfish cultivation in bucket, sharing-caring, and producing mask connectors. Their program aims in the economic, education, health sectors targeting students, PKK members, and community members.
“This is a Thematic Integrative KKN for January – February 2021, and we promote Optimizing Community Empowerment amid the Pandemic as our theme,” Johadi S.E., M.Sc, explained on Wednesday (3/3/2021).
He added that even though the event was held by implementing tight health protocols, his students stayed motivated and high spirited to empower the community in their KKN site. Johadi S.E., M.Sc said that the local community was highly enthusiastic when participating in catfish cultivation in the bucket training. Similar enthusiasm was also shown during the water spinach hydroponic cultivation material that he provided.
“People in Semawung Village in 11s were enthusiastic in participating. Using buckets, net pot, and catfish seeds, and fish feeding and water spinach, I want the KKN student to be active in facilitating this event,” he said.
Besides these two programs, Team 47 also initiated sharing-caring to increase student learning motivation. The university students taught the children with the teaching, attracting, and exciting (3M-mendidik, menarik, dan menyenangkan) method. This program aims to increase students’ interest in studying at home during the Covid-19 pandemic. The last program implemented by the team is teaching PKK members to make a mask connector. This training has a high opportunity to be developed as additional income because the demand for a mask in the village is still high.
The programs received positive responses from the community. The RT Chief, Darman, could see the business potential from catfish cultivation and water spinach hydroponic. “I am greatly inspired by the KKN programs from the university students, and if catfish and water spinach programs are promising, I will develop it as a side business because it does not need large lands,” Darman said.
