UNS — The community continuously makes efforts to recover the economy affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. A related attempt is performed by a Community Service Program (KKN) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta team in Tlogotirto Village, Grobogan District, Central Java. The team conducted training on batik tulis production offline on Monday (15/2/2021).
The event held by Team 18 KKN UNS is expected to increase youth villagers’ income from batik production. The workshop also aims to strengthen Grobogan youth’s love for Indonesian culture and as an effort to conserve batik. “Moreover, Grobogan has unique batik motifs which distinguish Grobogan’s batik from other batiks,” Team 18 KKN UNS team leader Ade Prasetya Aji stated in his remark to open the workshop on Monday morning (15/2/2021).
Collaborating with Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Purudhita, 30 participants received information on how to make batik, starting from creating the pattern, applying wax (pencantingan/pemalaman), dyeing, removing wax (pelodoran), to packaging. “To attract buyers with interesting packaging,” Siswanto, founder of MSME Purudhita and speaker in the workshop, stated.
The event was held in basecamp Purudhita, Sulursari Village, Gabus Subdistrict, Grobogan, and received positive responses from workshop participants. A participant, Aldino Trinovan, said that the workshop was engaging because participants can practice making batik directly. “From how to make a pattern to a good packaging, and hopefully with this participation, my fellows and I can open batik business at home,” Aldino added.
The workshop is expected to improve the young generation’s ability to make batik and use it as a source of entrepreneurship. Humas UNS
