UNS – In order to give assistance and support to micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (UMKM), National Standards Body (BSN) invites Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) for partnership in the promotion of Batik Mahkota Laweyan as a role model of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) implementation. The partnership is expected to educate society in selecting SNI-labelled batik since its quality is guaranteed.
Batik Mahkota Laweyan is an UMKM producing traditional batik from Surakarta that has received various product certifications. As an SNI-certified local company, Batik Mahkota Laweyan has some good features, among of which are fabric strength that meets the standards set, fabric color that does not fade easily, and well-organized manufacturing procedure, which could be a favourable points for consumers.
The batik producer, that was established in 2005, does not only produce traditional and stamped batik, but also modern batik as its prominent product. The batik is manufactured in forms of clothing, fabric sheets, interior furnitures, paintings, and also souvenirs. Visitors are welcome to visit Batik Mahkota Laweyan factory. Besides observing batik manufacturing process, visitors could also attend batik training workshop to learn about various types of batik from older collections. These has become an attraction for visitors who have visited Batik Mahkota Laweyan.
To maximize this potential, BSN will assist and train UMKM to acquire SNI certificate and enable their businesses to compete with other market players throughout ASEAN Economic Community (MEA). In addition, support from the local government is crucially needed to boost UMKM development. Through the partnership, UNS will further introduce SNI-certified businesses to its academic community and general society, so local products are not only notable in domestic businesses, but also, hopefully, become global market leaders.
