UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta and University of Electro-Communications (UEC) Tokyo, Japan held [UNS] UEC Edu Fest 2021, through Zoom Cloud Meeting, Saturday (13/3/2021). This event was held to introduce one of UNS global partners, UEC, to the UNS academic community and the public.
Representatives from both universities attended the event. The Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs, Prof. Sajidan, Head of UEC Office-UNS Indonesia, Dr. Budi Kristiawan, and the Chief of Japanese Study Center (PSJ) Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) UNS, and Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah represented UNS in the event. Director of the Center for International Programs and Exchange, Prof. Dr. Shinichi Watanabe, Member of the Board of Directors for Education and International Strategy, Prof. Dr. Kohji Abe, and Department of Mechanical and Intelligent Systems Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koji Enoki, represent UEC.
In his remark, Prof. Sajidan shared various plans between UNS and UEC in the research and innovation program. The collaboration possibilities between the universities including a joint international scientific event to disseminate research findings and innovation. “Also, to expand the collaboration, not only in renewable energy and mechanical engineering,” Prof. Sajidan stated.
The Director of the Center for International Programs and Exchange UEC, Prof. Dr. Shinichi Watanabe, shared material about campus introduction in “UEC at Glance”. He mentioned that the UEC campus is surrounded by trees and can be reached using 15 minutes railway ride from Tokyo, and the students can walk from Chofu station. The campus can be reached from two big airports, Haneda and Narita. He also explained that UEC focuses on several research fields, such as informatics, computer, network engineering, mechanical engineering, intelligent systems, and engineering science.
“UEC has the vision to be a global university. And we have research on snake robots, cryptographic control technology, and optical frequency comb,” he said.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koji Enoki, who taught in UNS in 2018, shared his teaching experience in Indonesia. Through his “Good Collaborative Studies Developed from Our Close Relationship by Both Official and Private Activities” presentation, he shared his meeting with Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs UNS 2014-2018, Prof. Sutarno.
“I stayed in Indonesia for two weeks in 2018. I met with the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs UNS to introduce myself and discuss the possibilities for future collaboration,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koji Enoki said.
He added that he delivered the material at ICIMECE international conference on his first visit and discussed research collaboration with UNS students. On a separate occasion, the Chief of PSJ LPPM UNS, Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah stated that UEC could be one of the dream campuses for studying in Japan because of its strategic location. She added that the university is comfortable because it is far from the crowded capital.
UEC has seven fields of study in modern technology, Department of Information and Communication Engineering, Department of Computer Science, and Department of Electronic Engineering. “UEC also has Department of Applied Physics and Chemistry, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Intelligent Systems, Department of Systems Engineering, and Department of Human Communication,” Dr. Eng.
