UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, attended Closed House Broiler Chicken Coop Construction opening in Jatikuwung Village, Gondangrejo Sub-District, Karanganyar District on Thursday (3/6/2021). The Chicken Coop is constructed to support the practice course for the Undergraduate Program in Animal Husbandry Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS. The land is a grant from PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk.
The construction opening ceremony was also attended by the Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs UNS, Prof. Sajidan, the Dean of FP UNS Prof. Samanhudi, and Representatives from PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk.
In his opening remark, Prof. Jamal delivered his gratitude for PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk concern for UNS. He also mentioned that this collaboration had brought both institutions closer. In 2018, PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk granted a scholarship for 20 underprivileged students from FP UNS. Each student receives IDR 5 million per semester until they complete their study.
“I deliver my gratitude to PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk. This is not the first because there was (a collaboration) in 2018, and I fully believe, this won’t be the last, and I hope there will be follow-ups,” Prof. Jamal stated. He added that this grant is the actual implementation of collaboration between higher education and the Business World and Industrial World (DUDI), following the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Innovation (Mendikbud Ristek) RI, Nadiem Makarim instruction.
Higher education is encouraged to build the Kampus Merdeka ecosystem to solve various social issues in the community, industrial challenges, and higher education issues through partnership with the industry, business world, working world, and the community. Prof. Jamal explained that in terms of funding, the Ministry had initiated matching funds. “In the Ministry, there are many proposals submitted for matching funds between universities and DUDI. But UNS and PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk has realized it,” he said.
The Rector shared that the construction of the chicken coop will cost IDR 2.3 billion and UNS prepared another IDR 800 million as a matching fund. He also stated that he is sure this investment will benefit the business because UNS is PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk. 11th partner. “But I hope this collaboration will continue,” he added. Concluding his remark, Prof. Jamal hoped that the students could utilize this facility to their best as their practice laboratory. He also reminded that the product of this facility should benefit the surrounding community.
“This grant is excellent as it realizes the Minister’s idea. I am sure with Closed House Broiler Chicken Coop construction; students could learn the theory in Kentingan and apply it here. I hope my students will utilize this (facility) as a practice laboratory, to practice how to manage, to how to distribute chickens,” he concluded. Humas UNS
