The Rector of UNS Discussed the Implementation of Kampus Merdeka Program in the First Lecture

UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho delivered an online general lecture to the New Students of UNS for the academic year of 2020/2021 through Zoom Clouds Meeting and UNS YouTube channel, Monday (31/8/2020).

On the occasion, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho delivered material on the Implementation of Kampus Merdeka (Independent Campus) – Merdeka Belajar (Independent Learning) policy, Online Learning, and UNS Ranking in front of more than 5,000 participants that consist of students and Faculty Members. The policy is implemented into eight activities, student exchange, internship, teaching assistant, research, humanities project, independent study or project, and village development or thematic Community Service Program.

The World Economic Forum in Dubai, March 2015, mentioned 16 skills needed in the 21st century. The skills are categorized into three fields, development of basic literacy, competence, and character development. Students are also expected to have skills in Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity (4C) to support the learning process.

“At least the learning process is relevant to the industry or working environment. So, it is known as the right to study three semesters outside the Program,” Prof. Jamal explained the implementation of kampus merdeka – merdeka belajar policy.

Prof. Jamal then described the online learning implementation this semester. Online learning system facilities will be provided to support learning activities. As an example, courses with 2 credits will be conducted 100 minutes in online learning method which can be divided into three stages, material overview (asynchronized) for 30 minutes, face to face learning using video conference or PowerPoint slides (synchronized) for 40 minutes, and discussion (asynchronized) for 30 minutes.

Prof. Jamal also shared UNS ranking in the general lecture. Currently, UNS ranked 8th in UniRank of Indonesian University, 10th in Webometrics, and placed in the first cluster and ranked 11th according to Dikti Kemendikbud RI. Humas UNS
