UNS — The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho inaugurated 237 New Students at the Postgraduate School UNS for the period 1 phase 2 academic year of 2020/2021 through zoom meeting and live broadcast Universitas Sebelas Maret YouTube channel, Monday (28/9/2020). After inaugurating the new students, Prof. Jamal delivered an opening lecture for the new students of Master and Doctoral program under the theme ‘Young, Creative, and Globalized’.
“I would like to welcome the new students of Postgraduate Program for the academic year of 2020/2021 and welcome to be an important part of the UNS academic community which has a tradition of studying, researching, and serving for the advancement of science, technology, and art,” Prof. Jamal explained.
In his opening lecture, Prof. Jamal stated that six strategies can be implemented for Master and Doctoral new students to achieve success. First is discipline, hard work, and master the knowledge in their selected program. Secondly, develop communication and discussion with the Academic Supervisor (PA) and Faculty Members. Third, learn knowledge from their respective program and other faculty. Fourth, master foreign language especially English. Fifth, self-actualization and sixth, strengthen faith and use social media in a smart and civilized manner.
“I advise you to master foreign languages, especially English. And be diligent in reading journals,” Prof. Jamal conveyed.
Besides, Prof. Jamal also shared the responsibilities of UNS students. This is in line with the UNS Rector Decree No. 828/H27/KM/ 2007 concerning UNS Student Life Regulation. First, maintain the dignity and good name of UNS by using social media to spread the word about UNS carefully. Second, uphold science, technology and art by learning, discipline, honesty and diligence, and readiness to join an organization. Third, compete and self-actualization. “Fourth, behave respectfully and obey the rules with the God Almighty, obey the rules and respect the campus residents,” he added.
In term of age, UNS is relatively young, 44 years old. But from the reputation point of view, UNS is rich with achievement and citation, for example, included in Cluster 1 Higher Education Rankings conducted by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud). Including the recognition of the world ranking institutions by Webometrics and UniRank (University Ranking), which put UNS in the top 10 of the best universities in Indonesia in July 2020. Humas UNS
