UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, attended the Appreciation for Student of Higher Education Affirmation Scholarship Program (ADik) UNS Achievements, held in G.P.H Haryo Mataram Auditorium, Tuesday (1/11/2020) night.
On this occasion, Prof. Jamal shared some of his expectations to ADik Affirmation Scholarship Program awardees. One of his expectation is that students must study well, thoughtfully, and disciplined to achieve proud achievements both in academic and non-academic fields. “This affirmation program is where the future of the region and your dreams are put at stake. Your ability and competencies are at the same standard as UNS affirmation students in general. Therefore, there is no excuse; you need to strive,” Prof. Jamal stated.
Prof. Jamal, who is also the Chief of The Council of Rector of Indonesian State University (CRISU), also encouraged UNS affirmation students to be active in various campus activities to hone their interest, talent, reasoning, soft skills, and soft competency. The goal is that UNS affirmation students can collect full provisions to carry out community service tasks in the future. For him, this is how affirmation students in UNS can strive to achieve the ladder of success.
In the presence of 105 UNS affirmation students, Prof. Jamal stated that the affirmation students made the right decision to study in UNS because the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud) of the Republic of Indonesia assessment on the reputation and performance of UNS is excellent. The ministry put UNS in cluster 1 in the national university ranking. “At the international ranking, Webometrics and UniRank (University Ranking), placed UNS in the best 10 universities in Indonesia in 2020,” Prof. Jamal added.
UNS ranking at the national and international level, mentioned by Prof. Jamal, is inseparable from the academia’s productivity, including from affirmation students. To encourage student achievement, UNS has established a policy of providing in-cash awards for students with non-academic achievements, which are also recognized course completion. On this occasion, Prof. Jamal juga also mentioned the adaptation to the new normal as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. For Prof. Jamal, such transformation must be anticipated by affirmation students in UNS to prevent obstacles during their education process. He also asked affirmation students to quickly adapt to science and technology development because, as academia, they were expected to create a new civilization in the future.
“Because of that, I invite all students of affirmation scholarship program for higher education, both those who are active and the alumni to use this momentum, implementing dharma bhakti and their potential as the agent of change for the development of Indonesia,” Prof. Jamal concluded.
Besides Prof. Jamal, the event was also attended by Vice-Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, the Commander of Korem (Danrem) 074/ Warastratama ColonelInf. Rano Maxim Adolf Tilaar, and all Deans and the Chief of Vocational School (SV) UNS. Humas UNS
