UNS — Students of Craft Arts Textile Design Study Program, Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Surakarta, brought home three titles in Upcycle Fashion Competition. The titles are 2nd place in materials innovation by Derrick Ananditya, 3rd place in materials innovation by Anggie Kurnia Rahma, and 3rd place in best fashion by Kharisma Widya Kartika.
The competition entitled ‘International Fashion Day #2 Upcycle Fashion Competition: The Rise of Postpandemic Fashion Style Competition’ was hosted by Batik Craft Fashion Design Study Program, Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta. In this competition, all participants are required to create clothing to be displayed in a fashion show held on November 22nd, 2022, at Sasana Ajiyasa Building ISI Yogyakarta.
Anggie Kurnia Rahma, or commonly known as Enjik, explains that in the preliminary stages, there were 95 participants submitting design illustrations and descriptions virtually. Afterward, the twenty best designs were selected from the submitted illustration, which later is embodied in a clothing product.
“These 20 designers were given time to prepare their final product and then required to submit their presentation video virtually. Afterward, the clothing was submitted to the organizer, this is for participants from out of town, while the final event was the Fashion Show and announcement,” she explains on Thursday (22/12/2022)
Enjik brought the ‘Ame Libre’ fashion concept that comes from French, which means free souls. The idea comes from the concerns toward mental health, which recently peaked among the young generation, especially university students.
“Based on this, I wanted to incorporate the theme into our national wisdom. It took me three days to complete the design, while the clothing preparation took around a week. I sew the clothing by myself at home, starting from coloring and sewing,” she added.
She also reveals that the most challenging part was to sew all the small pieces of clothes into one. The stage took considerable time to produce whole new fabrics. Enjik hopes that she will be able to continue her accomplishment; crafting new creative ideas through fashion and arts. Humas UNS
