UNS – Students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won awards in the 2023 Architecture and Interior Design Incubation event, a program organized through a collaboration between universities in Central Java and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf). The three students are Finanda Puspita, who won the best work category 1; Galuh Fatika, who secured the best work category 3; and Raudhah Nadzifah, who earned the best work category 5.
The registration for the competition and portfolio sessions started in April and were attended by participants from various universities. Out of many applicants, only 35 were selected to form a group. In early July, the groups underwent quarantine at a hotel for a week and received training from competent experts to support their competition activities.
Finanda explained that after the quarantine, the design process began. This included sketching, architecture, interior design, and consultations with mentors, taking up about a month’s time. The works were submitted in mid-August, and the presentation of the projects, along with the award certificates took place on September 4-5.
“According to the ministry, the top three winning works will be exhibited again in Jakarta. So after this, I will have revisions from my mentor to create a design that will be implemented in Karang Village. The village will be designed to become a film tourism village,” Finanda elaborated.
Finanda admitted that she did not expect to win this award. “Honestly, winning was beyond my expectations and was completed unexpectedly because the event coincided with several other agendas and college assignments. Looking ahead, I hope that my juniors, friends, and I can collaborate with architects. Furthermore, I hope that the UNS Interior Design Study Program can advance further and become known for the achievements of its students throughout Indonesia,” Finanda added. HUMAS UNS
