UNS – A general lecture on “Being Farmer is Cool” was held on Saturday (4/7/2020) by the Diploma Program on Agribusiness Vocational School (SV) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, attended by 131 participants that consist of students, teachers, and community members through Zoom Cloud Meetings.
Often considered as a less promising profession, millennial farmers step up with collaboration and new ideas by looking at trends and technological developments. This aims to improve the competitiveness in the local and international market. This agenda has an objective to provide inspiration and motivation for all participants.
“We took the theme because we are inspired by the speakers who succeed in becoming glorious farmers at their young age. We hoped that participants can make the speakers as their role models of millennial farmers and thus, maintaining Indonesia food resilience,” the Head of Diploma Program on Agribusiness SV UNS, Raden Kunto Adi, S.P., M.P, stated.
Led by Rysca Indreswari, S.Pt., M.Si. as the moderator, the general lecture invited three speakers, Agus Wibowo, S.P., the owner of Agro Lestari Merbabu, an alumnus of Agrotechnology Program UNS and the Winner of Global Student Entrepreneur Award in 2019. The second speaker is Muhammad Jafar Khoerudin, S.T.P., the owner of BSF Boyolali and Minimasyu Farm, the winner of Young Entrepreneur Development Program (Program Penumbuhan Wirausaha Muda Pertanian – PWMP) 2019 who delivered a speech on “The Opportunity in Organic Waste Bioconversion for the Agricultural, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry”. The last speaker is the owner of Mitra Tani Parahyangan and CEO PT. Sinergi Tani Indonesia, Sandi Octa Susila. As an agricultural activist, he has achieved several achievements such as Kick Andy Heroes 2020. Concerning the Covid-19 pandemic, the Chief of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Millennial Farmer Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia asked the community to stay productive. On the occasion, Sandi delivered a speech on “Market Opportunity and Horticulture product Competitiveness amid the Covid-19 Turbulence”. Humas UNS
