UNS Hospital Becomes a Second-Line COVID-19 Reference Hospital in Jawa Tengah

UNS – The Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Hospital Surakarta has officially become a second line reference hospital for COVID-19 cases in Jawa Tengah. This was strengthened by the Decree of the Governor of Jawa Tengah Number 445/46 of 2020 regarding Second Line Reference Hospital for the Prevention of Certain Emerging Infection Diseases in Jawa Tengah. Moreover, in line with the Minister of Health Decree No. 216 of 2020, UNS Hospital also chosen as COVID-19 Examination Laboratory, which starts operating since 13 April 2020.

The Director UNS Hospital, Prof. Dr. dr. Hartono, M.Si., during a press conference with the media on Sunday (19/4/2020) in UNS Hospital mentioned that related to this matter the UNS Hospital has been prepared.

Initially, UNS Hospital has 6 isolation rooms. Four of them have a standard pressure and 2 rooms have negative pressure. The 4 rooms with standard pressure, previously, have been used for the treatment of various patients. Meanwhile, the two rooms with negative pressure will be used for COVID-19 patients during the pandemic.

“Started from the next Monday (20/2/2020), in line with the assignment from the Governor, UNS Hospital will open new 10 rooms with negative pressure and 2 intensive isolation rooms. The negative pressure rooms can be occupied by a maximum 42 patients. There will be separated room for Patients Under Supervision (PDP) and positive cases,” Prof. Hartono added.

The UNS Hospital is grateful for having a supporting infrastructure, thus, in a relatively short time, UNS Hospital managed to expand and add more capacity. “Service standard will be maintained, in accordance with the guidelines from the Minister of Health,” Prof. Hartono added.

Moreover, related to the Human Resource (HR), in UNS Hospital there is a COVID-19 Medical Team with 23 members from various field specialization under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr. SpP-Consultant. There is also a COVID-19 laboratory team that consists of a medical specialist in Laboratory and Molecular Biologist. Meanwhile, for the COVID-19 patients’ service, a COVID taskforce will be in duty, which consists of 120 staff from various professions and duty.

“Hopefully, this assignment will improve the UNS Hospital in helping the public and government in facing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We really are expecting support from the government and community, thus, our service capabilities will be improved,” said Prof. Hartono.

On that occasion, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH., M.Hum., mentioned that as a response to the COVID-19, the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia allocates funding amounted to 210 Billion Rupiah for Education Hospital and Faculty of Medical Science in Indonesia. Specifically, the UNS Hospital received Rp 19.5 Billion budget allocation.

Furthermore, in accordance with the Permenpan (Ministry of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform Decree) No. RB/3571/M/SM/0100/2020 dated 26 March 2020, in an effort to accelerate the fulfillment of health workers in Public Service Agency (BLU) for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the UNS Hospital will increase its HR to handle the COVID-19 patients.

“This received a direct response from the UNS Hospital Director, therefore, UNS Hospital recruits more doctors, nurses, and other staff,” said Prof. Jamal.

UNS also allocates its budget, which amounted to Rp 8.3 billion for the COVID-19 handling in UNS Hospital. “Thus, we prepare a special room for COVID-19 patients on the 5th floor. If this deemed insufficient, the 6th floor can be used for this cause,” Prof. Jamal concluded. Humas UNS
