UNS Launched 36 Research Product and Community Service Program

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a launching and exhibition of commercially-ready products on Friday (19/3/2021) in front of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) office. UNS launched 36 products from Faculty Members’ researches and community services in commemorating UNS 45th Anniversary.

The event was attended by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, Chief of LPPM UNS, Prof. Okid Parama Astirin, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, Director of Innovation and Downstreaming UNS, Prof. Agus Purwanto, and inventors and business actors who come to target the launched products. This event was held because UNS products often struggle when receiving external invitations to participate in an exhibition.

“The climate of research and innovation are predominantly moving in the applied research with maximum achievement reached by product prototypes at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 or Innovation Readiness Level (IRL) 3. These prototypes need further development until TRL 9 or IRL 6 to be a commercial-ready product. This indicator is marked by researchers proposing for product-focused research,” Prof. Yunus explained in his report.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, also added that innovation is an energy to create changes and win the competition. As Higher Education with Legal Entity (PTNBH), UNS needs to make a leap in innovation and downstreaming. Research and innovation should not stop at meeting the requirements of Higher Education Tri Dharma.

“We support faculty member’s research to become an innovation, downstreaming, and commercialization. I appreciate the step taken by Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Affairs who launched these 36 products,” Prof. Jamal explained. Prof. Jamal mentioned that strategic leaps in downstreaming should be appreciated because it is one of the PTNBH steps. The Rector also encouraged all academic members to conduct research and innovation with collaborative spirits.

Faculty of Agriculture (FP) participate in the exhibition with its Jatiyoso red ginger beverage created by Prof. Supriyono from Agrotechnology Program FP UNS. The red ginger was planted by farmers in Jatiyoso, Karanganyar, under the Agrotechnology Program’s supervision. “In the production process, we collaborate with CV Agro Herbalindo. The red ginger was processed into two products, sachet ginger beverage and dried ginger that has a shelf life of six months,” Prof. Supriyono explained.

This launching is expected to attract investors to collaborate with UNS through UNS Business Management Unit (BPU). After the launch, all products will be exhibited online through the UNS YouTube channel on Saturday (20/3/2021). Humas UNS
