UNS Library is Accredited with ‘A’

UNS — The library of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta achieved ‘A’ accreditation from Library Accreditation Institute (Lembaga Akreditasi Perpustakaan – LAP) of the Republic of Indonesia National Libray (Perpustakaan Nasional Republik Indonesia – PNRI). The reaccreditation process for UNS Library was performed online through Zoom Meeting application on Saturday (8/8/2020). The result of this assessment is vital in determining the quality of UNS Library from the existing standard and to measure the quality and service capacity improvement that has been done in the past 5 years.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho stated that UNS is committed and provide full support on the development performance by UNS Library. Prof. Jamal Wiwoho hopes that UNS Library can achieve international accreditation through the improvement in facilities and infrastructures, adding collections, particularly its electronic section such as e-book and e-journal, and improving human resources quality through training, certification, competency test and continuing study to the undergraduate, master, and doctoral degree in Library and Information Science.

The reaccreditation process was led by Supriyanto, Zurniaty Nasrul, and Siti Juniarsih, from LAP PNRI. After verifying physical evidence from six accreditation components, the assessors also perform an online survey on library rooms, services and infrastructure of the library guided by the UNS librarian. All assessors were invited to join online library tour to all floors in UNS Library building and all facilities and infrastructures inside it. This tour also covered several Corners and Literacy Garden UNS-BNI, the reading room in Kleco, Pabelan, and Kebumen Campus Library.

The Head of UNS Library, Burhanudin Harahap, Ph.D., stated that there is an adjustment in the accreditation process due to the pandemic. Before the pandemic, assessment on physical evidence and visitation were performed directly, while during the pandemic the process is conducted online. In this process, the UNS Library was assisted by UNS Public Relation and Technical Implementational Unit of ICT to provide access to physical evidence for the assessor. The accreditation team used 20 cameras to survey all library areas led by hosts. Burhanudin added that the hosts guide assessors through vlogs to assess 6 main components covering the aspects of the collection, facilities and infrastructure, library services, library staff, administration and management, and supporting components.

UNS Library achievements are the result of its components’ commitment to continue learning, creating, and innovating. The library should support the Higher Education Tri Dharma in education, research, and community services. One of the assessors, Zurniaty Nasrul stated that the vlog concept in the online accreditation greatly helps in assessing the physical evidence and room survey. The result of the assessment was announced at the end of the process, in which UNS Library was accredited with ‘A’ level. Humas UNS
