UNS – The first term of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Medical Team that deployed to the landslide affected location in Sipayung Village, Sukajaya Sub-District, Bogor, has been returned to Solo on Sunday (19/01/2020). Based on the information given by dr.Husam, one of the team doctors, this term medical team has served more than thousand of landslide victims on the main post in Sipayung.

“Since the first day, starting from 5 pm in the afternoon to 10 pm, there are 60 patients. This number kept increasing into 150 patients per day, 160 patients, 250 patients, 269 patients, up to a total of a thousand. The average patients were kids, toddlers, and people who are older than 60 years old,” he explained.

Initially, Dr. Hussam added, the team did not expect that the main post will be visited by patients in large numbers. That was why the team prepared two alternatives, the main post, and the mobile system.

Panji Kuncoro, from the Search and Rescue (SAR) UNS, said that the people welcomed and were satisfied with the services provided by the UNS medical team. He learned this after conversing with the residents after treatment.

“They are happy and feel comfortable with the doctor and the medicines that are given. The service is also very friendly,” Panji said.

Besides the main posts in Sipayung, the UNS Medical Team also sent two members, dr. Solechin Prasetyo and Catur from SAR UNS, to referral post in Cileuksa Village. Cileuksa is one of the most severely affected areas with difficult access that inhabited by 4000 refugees. This was in line with the initial agreement of the UNS team, targeting the hardest area.

Even though the volunteer from Mapala Vagus of the FK UNS and general practitioners have arrived there, but they are not willing to perform in-depth medical treatment. As a result, several patients diagnosed with less severe disease were referred to be evacuated hastily.

“When the UNS Medical Team was arrived, at least there is a more qualified scientific reviewer. With our presence, there are more willing to take medical measures on the location. This certainly reduces evacuation actions that take a lot of funds,” dr. Solechin said.

One of the concerning matters in Cileuksa is skin disease outbreaks, one of which is spread from water use. Because of the settlements, position and some of them are located below others, the infected water that flows down automatically will spread the disease to the low area.

Therefore, for the second term Medical Team, UNS deploys 1 internist, 1 pulmonologist, 1 psychiatrist, 1 dermatologist, 1 general practitioner, and 2 Mapala Vagus from the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNS.

“The diseases that appeared are fever, respiratory infection, skin disease, pneumonia, internal disease, and anxiety. Moreover, the kids there often closed their ears during heavy rain and refused to sleep inside the house, thus we suggested to send a psychiatrist,” dr. Husam said.

For the second term Medical Team deployment, UNS further expands the collaboration network, thus it facilitates teamwork. The collaboration includes the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Health Department Bogor, Kodim, and the Ministry of Health the Republic of Indonesia.

Prof. Kuncoro, the Vice-Rector of Student and Alumni Affairs, UNS is grateful that the presence of the UNS Team can ease the burden of the victims.

“Forward, we plan to give an appreciation to all parties that contribute to this mission,” Prof. Kuncoro concluded. Humas UNS/Kaffa
