UNS — University of Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta joins as a member of China-ASEAN Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance (CAASTIA) in Guangxi, China on November 22, 2019.
A lecturer of UNS Faculty of Agriculture (FP), Dr. Dimas Rahadian Aji Muhammad said that CAASTIA was an organization that associated research institutions, including universities that focused on agricultural research and development. Currently, the official members of CAASTIA are 49 institutions in ASEAN and China. UNS is the one and only institution in Indonesia that formally joins the organization.
The admission date of UNS joining CAASTIA coincided with the 3rd China (Guangxi)-ASEAN Conference on Agricultural Science and Technology Cooperation in Beihai, China. “The conference which took ‘agro-food processing’ as the theme was attended by 416 participants consisting of academics and researchers from various countries such as China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Laos, India, Australia, and Indonesia,” explained Dr. Dimas, UNS representative in the event.
Dr. Dimas presented the result of his latest research in the field of national-commodity-based on food processing entitled ‘Degradation and improvement of health-promoting properties of cocoa-derived products during the manufacturing process‘.
Before joining the CAASTIA, UNS had already established cooperation with various universities in China, including the Guangxi University which was signed by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho and the Rector of Guangxi University, Yueyu Zhao on the last September. The collaborations of UNS with institutions in China are focused on education, research, and community service, as well as student and lecturer exchanges and international publication collaboration. “The joining of UNS in CAASTIA is expected to expand the name of UNS at international level and to build UNS’ reputation toward World Class University (WCU),” Dr. Dimas stated.
