UNS Pharmacist: Vitamin Consumption At The Exact Dose

UNS — The Covid-19 pandemic is getting more concerning and requiring everyone to increase their self-protection. Aside from adhering to the health protocol, the public must protect themselves from the inside. One of the methods is by consuming vitamins to increase their immunity and stamina. However, the public must understand the rules for taking vitamins. Do not take vitamins carelessly just out of the fear of Covid-19. The rules in taking vitamins must follow the exact dose and amount.

“Drugs must be consumed at an exact dose, this applies to vitamins too. Vitamin should not be consumed carelessly, must be according to the dosage. The effectiveness of drugs and vitamin is related to its dosage,” Dr. rer. nat. Saptono Hadi, S.Si., M.Si. Apt., who is a pharmacist in Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), explained on Wednesday (3/2/2021).

Dr. Saptono Hadi who currently also serves as the Head of Pharmacy Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) UNS, also explains that each person has their particular dosage. Consuming vitamins thus will need a different dosage. The dosage will also consider the body condition whether the person is healthy or not, their age, and body weight. Therefore, vitamin consumption must be according to the doctor’s recommendation. However, someone can consume vitamins in a different form. For instance, they can drink vitamin syrup in the morning and consume another vitamin tablet at the night.

“The vitamins’ form can be various, syrup or tablet. The most important is to stick to the dosage. Do not reduce or increase. If it is violated there can be side effects. Too much vitamin can make the kidney work harder,” he concluded. Humas UNS
