UNS – Students of Pharmacy Department Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta successfully achieved all the trophies of Indonesian Pharmacy Olympiad (Pharmacito 2019) in Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). With the achievements, UNS successfully maintained the winning award in 2018, the Pharmacy of UNS team managed the First Winner.
This Olympiad was held on April 11-13, 2019 and attended by 17 Pharmaceutical Colleges in Indonesia. The Pharmacy team of FMIPA UNS was successfully winning the First, Second, and Third Winner after managing all the teams from UNS reached the final stage and defeated the other semi-finalists.
In this Olympiad, UNS sent three teams to compete and each team consists of three students. The first team which consisted of Agung Putu, Cahya Permana, and David Sarono, took the First Winner. Meanwhile, the Second Winner was accomplished by the team consisted of Tiara Annisa, Dhea Aqila, and Tita Kusuma. Then, the last team consisted of Kezia Varadina, Wening Dyah, and Febriani, as the Third Winner.
One of the team members, Dhea Aqila, felt happy for winning in the National Olympiad on behalf of Pharmacy Department of UNS. Moreover, they won all three places.
“At first, I don’t believe that we could win all the places because the competitors were the teams from other sophisticated colleges like ITB and UGM,” she said.
Before becoming the finalists, all three teams have passed four stages of selection. The first stage was a multiple choices test (CBT), while the second stage was a tool application council, self-medication, and consultation with doctors (PCE).
After that, the third stage was inter-professional education (IPE). In this stage, the participants required to act as pharmacists who will conduct patient visits and discussion about the patients with general practitioners, dentists, and nurses. Finally, the last stage was a quiz.
Beside explained their experience in this Olympiad, the students also shared some tips to win the competition. Firstly, never give up and always try. Secondly, revise the intention of joining the competition. Third, practice and be consistent. Next, identify the most effective method to study. Then, synergize with the group members. And the last, recognize the type and style of the competition.
“If you lose a competition, don’t give up easily. Because we also have lost in previous competitions. In addition, we should revise our intention when participating in the competition, for example, the intention to make proud of UNS. The practice also must be routine and consistent. Get to know the most comfortable method of learning. There are many olympiad materials, so we share tasks with group members.
