UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has once again achieved remarkable success on both national and global levels. According to the latest Webometrics Ranking of World Universities released in January 2025, UNS secured the 6th position nationally and ranked 1.055th globally. This achievement strengthens UNS’s position as one of Indonesia’s top state universities (PTN) based on Webometrics rankings at the beginning of 2025.

Understanding the Webometrics Ranking System

Webometrics, one of the world’s leading university ranking systems, evaluates over 31.000 higher education institutions. It uses three key indicators: Visibility (web impact), Transparency (openness), and Excellence (academic quality). UNS has shown significant improvement in all three aspects, outperforming several other renowned Indonesian state universities.

UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., praised this achievement, attributing it to UNS’s continuous efforts to enhance the quality and quantity of scientific publications while strengthening international collaborations. Furthermore, UNS has focused on developing its information technology infrastructure to support academic and research activities.

“This achievement reflects the dedication of the entire UNS academic community to improving education, research, and community service. We remain committed to becoming an excellent, innovative, and globally competitive university,” Prof. Hartono stated on Friday (31/1/2025).

UNS continues to make significant contributions to the advancement of science and technology. This milestone motivates the academic community to innovate and produce graduates with strong global competitiveness. With high enthusiasm and commitment, UNS remains optimistic about achieving its vision of becoming a world-class university that positively impacts society.

“We will keep promoting impactful innovations and scientific publications while ensuring UNS remains relevant in addressing global challenges,” he added.

In the January 2025 Webometrics ranking, UNS outperformed several other Indonesian state universities. These include Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya at 1.114th place globally, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) at 1.208th place, Universitas Airlangga at 1.419th place, and Universitas Brawijaya (UB) at 1.800th place. This success further solidifies UNS’s reputation as one of Indonesia’s leading universities. As an institution that consistently innovates, UNS is expected to continue playing a strategic role in advancing higher education in the country.

With this recognition, UNS reaffirms its dedication to producing high-quality graduates ready to compete globally. “We hope this achievement inspires the entire UNS academic community to continue contributing to the university’s reputation while providing real benefits to society,” Prof. Hartono concluded.
