UNS Rector Inaugurates Two Professors in Linguistics Study and Industrial Engineering

UNS – The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, inaugurates two new Professors via online meeting, Wednesday (15/7/2020). The two Professors are Prof. Dr. Tri Wiratno, M.A., a Professor in Linguistics Study in the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) UNS, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo, ST, M. Si., as a Professor in Industrial Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS.

Prof. Dr. Tri Wiratno, M.A., the 222nd Professor in UNS and the 25th in FIB, delivers an inauguration remark entitled ‘Living and Understanding Life Through Text within a Functional Systemic Linguistic Perspective’, while Prof. Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo, ST, M. Si., as the 223rd Professor in UNS and the 14th in FT UNS, delivers a speech on ‘Challenges and Solutions for the Commercialization of Lithium Battery Innovations’.

In his remarks, Prof. Jamal will add to the number of Professors in UNS, where out of the total 223 Professors, there are 124 active professors. “I am really proud with the inauguration of the new Professors in UNS, their presence will bring a fresh ambiance in term of strengthening research and innovation, which is one of the main guards in supporting UNS in its leaps to realize its objective to be included in the 500 world rankings,” explains Prof. Jamal.

Prof. Jamal adds that currently, the society is living in a disruptive era caused by both information technology and COVID-19 pandemic. However, both problems must be faced as it will have an impact on the changing order of human life in the world. Further to face the pressures of the disruptive era characterized by speed (moving fast), surprises, and sudden shift, it requires the ability to adapt, change the paradigm of thought and speed of action. This competency is needed by the academics, lecturers, researchers, and especially Professor.

“They are actually scientists who teach. Thus, it is proper for them to be acknowledged as intellectuals, who initiate innovation and changes. It must be admitted that change is difficult and full of inconvenience,” Prof. Jamal added.

To Prof. Tri Wiratno, Prof. Jamal advised that linguistics should not only concerned with linguistics study, but also the knowledge that can provide solutions to various problems encountered in people’s lives. Similarly, Prof. Jamal also advised Prof. Wahyudi Sutopo, as a battery expert at FT UNS, “I wish that the development of lithium batteries in the future remain attentive to environmental friendliness and the use of renewable energy. I also congratulate Prof. Wahyudi for entering the 2020 500 Indonesia Best Researchers list by SINTA,” Prof. Jamal concluded. Humas UNS
