UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta establish a partnership with the Center for Regional Settlement Infrastructure (Balai Prasarana Permukiman Wilayah – PPW) Central Java (Jateng) Directorate General of Housing Ministry of Public Works and Housing (Kementerian PUPR). This partnership is marked with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Vice-Rector for Partnership and Planning Affairs UNS, Prof. Dr. rer.nat Sajidan M.Si. and The Chief of Balai PPW Jateng, Cakra Nagara S.T., M.T., M.E. in UNS Inn, Monday (16/11/2020).
The Vice-Rector for Partnership and Planning Affairs UNS, Prof. Dr. rer.nat Sajidan M.Si. stated that this collaboration aims to increase the capacity of community services and research in preventing and handling of slums area. “As a representative from UNS we warmly welcome the collaboration between Balai PPW Jateng and UNS as a form of implementations in research, community services, and Human Resources development,” Prof. Sajidan conveyed in his remark.
The Chief of Balai PPW Jateng, Cakra Nagara S.T., M.T., M.E. stated that the coverage of discussion in this collaboration includes several topics, such as increasing the capacity and community service programs in preventing and handling slums area, and research to study program implementation, evaluation of program outcomes, and impact of a program. “Infrastructure development that is not accompanied by Human Resource development equals to zero,” Cakra stated. He added that this collaboration will be able to affect Human Resource development through opening the opportunity for student internship. This collaboration will also involve higher education academicians to contribute to research community services concerning the housing issue.
Before proceeding into MoU signing, in the same place were held a coordination meeting and Forum Group Discussion (FGD) Arrangement of Kemukus Mountain Area. The Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNS, Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni, M.Si attended the occasion to led the discussion on the five fields, economic empowerment of Kemukus residents, tourism management of the Mount Kemukus area, the socio-cultural approach of the community, gender and child issues as well as the spatial concept of residential planning.
