UNS — Unused patchwork waste is processed into a mask by Team 70 of Student Community Service Program (KKN) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. This program is implemented in Bulakrejo Hamlet, Tangkil Village, Sragen Subdistrict, Sragen District, Central Java. The program was implemented through socialization and practice by inviting Herta Widya Sari, Craft Arts (Textile Design) Program UNS student, as a speaker.
Ten people attended the offline event because the team limits the number of participants to avoid crowds. In an interview with uns.ac.id, Herta said that this event is not merely implemented because of the high demand of mask, but also to reduce the number of unused patchwork waste.
“The material for the mask is not limited to patchwork waste, but also from printing or batik cloth,” Herta explained on Sunday (28/3/2021).
The program was held twice, on 27 January 2021 and 2 February 2021, and received a warm response from PKK members in Bulakrejo Hamlet, who showed enthusiasm and excitement during the socialization. Besides campaigning the patchwork waste process, the event also increases community awareness to obey health protocols.
“Mask production from patchwork waste also fill the housewives’ free time by creating a product with economic value,” Herta concluded. Humas UNS
