UNS — A proud achievement was obtained by the student of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta at the international level. Lisa Elfena, a student from Sociology Anthropology Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and (FKIP) UNS, won 2 categories in ELSAH 2020 (Empower Leadership on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Human Rights), which focuses on sustainable development and Human Rights.
Lisa joined the competition online. The competition was managed by the Korean Association of Human Rights Studies, KyungHee University, Korea International Cooperation Agency, Asia Development Alliance, Global Call to Action Against Poverty, Migrant Forum Asia, and Civil Society Development Association. Before entering the competition, Lisa has submitted an essay on development and Human Rights. Of 198 applicants from all over Asia, only 49 are selected as participants. Eight people were selected from various universities in Indonesia, including UNS, Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), and Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (UKSW). Lisa won the best national action plan category in the group competition and won the 2nd position in the individual competition.
“The competition has two branches, individual competition, and group competition. The group is based on our country of origin. In the group competition, we won the best national action plan, for the individual I won the second place,” Lisa stated to uns.ac.id, Monday (28/12/2020).
The online competition was held for five days from Monday – Friday (14-18/12/2020). Before the competition, Lisa received an online lecture for 5 consecutive weeks on SDGs and Human Rights from Kyung Hee University Korea. When asked about her impression of the competition, Lisa stated that the competition was great fun and did not feel like a competition. “(We) learn together on each country in Asia problem concerning development and Human Resources. It was sad that the internet connection was unstable and power cut,” Lisa stated.
In the competition, Lisa analyzes the problem, collected data, and provide the best solution for the development and Human Rights. Lisa’s inspiration is her background as a Sociology Anthropology Education Program student after observing the surrounding community’s condition. In this competition, Lisa discussed cultural rights in sustainable development. In the future, Lisa hopes that she can implement the solution she offered. Humas UNS
