UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students who had waited long to participate in face-to-face (PTM) learning started to find a consolation. The university has begun a PTM implementation trial for students in the class of 2020/2021 in faculties and vocational school gradually under specific requirements.
The first PTM implementation trial was conducted in the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Sports, and Faculty of Medical Science. Students who participated in this trial are required to receive permission from their parents and tested negative for Covid-19 based on antigent, swab test, and GeNose test results. Though the number of students allowed to attend the trial was limited for the scheduled class session, students welcomed this trial enthusiastically.
A student of the Diploma Program in Applied Communication Vocational School (SV) UNS, Shalsa Monika Margaretha, who participated in the PTM implementation trial on Monday (12/4/2021), said she is happy to meet her new friends and wonders about SV UNS Tirtomoyo Campus. “My parents do not forbid me from participating in this offline class trial. They support it because they think the offline class is more effective,” the student who lives in Solo said.
Though she felt awkward when entering the campus for the first time, Shalsa admitted that she is happy to meet and know the faculty members in her program. Winanti Latif Isnaini, from the same program with Shalsa, needs to travel from Sukoharjo to participate in the offline class and stated that she is happy with the offline course. She said that as a new student, she is curious about the real PTM situation. After participating in the trial, she hopes that offline classes can be fully implemented in August after more than one year of online learning.
uns.ac.id also talked to Aji Suryanata from Undergraduate Program in Law Science, Faculty of Law, who participated in the PTM implementation trial on Wednesday (7/4/2021). “I am really excited because that was the first time for me to join the offline class in the Faculty of Law UNS after two semesters participated in online learning,” Aji said. Now back to his hometown in Batu, Malang, Aji hopes that his fellow students and faculty members who participated in the PTM implementation trial can adjust to the current condition and apply health protocols.
Cannot Wait to Participate
A Development Economic Program Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNS student, Titin Dwi Aryanti, admitted that she cannot wait to participate in the PTM implementation trial. Titin, who lives in Solo, wants to participate to feel the real PTM situation. Though her parents did not give permission initially, she tried to explain that there will be rapid testing before class, limited to three faculties in a week, and the application of health protocols. “After that, my parents calmed down and allowed me to participate in the trial,” Titin explained.
She hopes that this trial can prepare new students to adjust to the preparation for offline class. She also hopes that the materials can be taught more effectively to students. “For UNS, I hope it can implement offline learning effectively followed by efforts to minimize the spread of Covid-19,” she concluded.
