UNS — Student from Historical Science Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Salman Al Farisi, achieved a national accomplishment through his poster on culture digitization. With his work, Salman won 2nd position in the national poster competition, DOKAR (Donasi Sambil Berkarya – Donating through Creation) VII, held by Klub Paduan Angklung (Angklung Choir Club) Institut Teknologi Bandung.
Salman said that the message that he wants to deliver through this work is how Indonesian cultures should be passed and inherited to the young generation. Advanced technology has demanded artists to adapt to the new situation and condition. Thus, culture should be delivered using approaches that will be received and understood well by the young generation through modern technology and digital media.
“With a close collaboration between cultural activist and digital platform developers, it’s not impossible that the long-abandoned cultures can be resurrected,” Salman explained on Tuesday (26/1/2021).
The design-software-adept student added that digitization could prevent the extinction of a culture that has been abandoned by the population. Through the idea he poured into his poster, Salman won over his rivals from other universities in Indonesia and is grateful for his accomplishment. Salam prepared a long-developed concept for the competition held online between September – November 2020. He stated that the production process only took 3 -4 days, but conceptualizing the work took time.
Salman hopes that this achievement will encourage him to be more productive in creating artworks. He also hopes that he can improve his time management because the opportunity to develop through competition is widely available. “Self-control and priority scale need to be considered further as muhasabah to be better.
