UNS – Students from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta achieved remarkable success at the 2024 National Student Arts Week (Peksiminas), held at Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) from Monday (2/9/2024) to Saturday (7/9/2024). Nethania Shellin Sinaga, a 2022 Psychology student, won a gold medal in the Women’s Poetry Reading competition, while Muhammad Fauzan, a 2020 student from the Faculty of Arts and Design (FSRD), earned a bronze medal in the Comic Strip competition with his piece titled “Jejak Digital.”
Both students contributed points to the Central Java contingent, helping the region secure the overall championship title at the 17th edition of Peksiminas. Another UNS student, Mallisa’ Lalan Langi’ Pongtambing, a 2020 student from the Vocational School, represented Central Java in the Men’s Seriosa Singing competition.
Peksiminas is an annual talent event organized by the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI). As part of the National Talent Management (MTN) program, BPTI conducts ongoing training to cultivate exceptional talent in fields of research and innovation, arts and culture, and sports. The 2024 Peksiminas was held under the theme “Merdeka Berprestasi Talenta Seni Menginspirasi” (Freedom to Achieve, Inspiring Artistic Talent).
Participants in Peksiminas are winners of regional art competitions, namely the Regional Student Arts Week (Peksimida). Each of the 15 competition categories is represented by one selected student.

“To participate in Peksiminas, you must first go through several selection stages. It starts with an internal selection called Peksiminus (University Student Arts Week), where students from various departments and faculties within the university compete. The first-place winner from Peksiminus advances to Peksimida (Regional Student Arts Week). The first-place winner from Peksimida then moves on to Peksiminas,” Fauzan explained to uns.ac.id on Friday (13/9/2024).
Fauzan added that he had no specific expectations, having seen the extraordinary work of other participants. However, he remained committed to his principle of doing his best and seeing things through to the end. “Whatever the outcome, you’ve already given your best effort.”
“I hope Peksiminas 2024 can inspire others, especially fellow students with disabilities, to be brave and compete in mainstream settings. I am also a person with a disability competing in an open category. Don’t be afraid to fail, because failure is the first step toward honing and developing your skills even further,” Fauzan hoped.
