UNS Surges 80 Ranks in QS Asia Rankings 2025

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has achieved a remarkable milestone as the year 2024 draws to a close. In the recently announced QS Asia Rankings 2025 on November 6, 2024, UNS secured the 221st position in Asia and ranked 55th in Southeast Asia. This marks a significant leap of 80 positions from its previous standing at 301-350 in the QS Asia Rankings 2024. The Southeast Asia ranking also saw a notable improvement, moving up from 62nd place last year to 55th this year.

The UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr. M.Si., stated that the QS Asia Rankings is an annual assessment by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a UK-based higher education ranking organization. The 2025 edition included 984 universities across Asia, with 73 institutions from Indonesia making it onto the list.

The QS Asia Rankings 2025 utilized several key indicators, including academic reputation (30%), citations per paper (10%), papers per faculty member (5%), employer reputation (20%), faculty-to-student ratio (10%), proportion of faculty with a Ph.D. (5%), international research network (10%), inbound exchange students (2,5%), outbound exchange students (2,5%), international student ratio (2,5%), and international faculty ratio (2,5%).

“UNS showed significant improvement in several indicators, particularly in academic reputation, student exchange programs, and employer reputation,” Prof. Hartono explained on Friday (8/11/2024).
