UNS – Both lecturers and students of Undergraduate to Doctorate Program of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta are responsible to conduct a research. Designing and conducting a research are not easy; therefore, Graduate Program of English Education Department UNS held a workshop under the theme “Designing Qualitative Research Project in English Language Teaching (ELT)” by inviting the experts, namely Masaki Oda from Tamagawa University Japan on Saturday (9/29/2018) at Language Center of UNS.
The Dean of the Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) UNS Joko Nurkamto and two lecturers of the English Education Department namely Ngadiso and Nur Arifah Drajati attended the agenda. Joko Nurkamto opened and gave a speech at the workshop that was attended by 167 participants from various universities.
A qualitative researcher must find out a topic that can later be used as a problem solution. After getting the topic, the next step is to determine the theme, study the literature reviews or theories that are in line with the research theme, come up with research questions, collect data and, analyze the data.
Literature studies can be obtained from various sources such as books, dictionaries, academic journals, official documents, newspapers / magazines, internet websites, and others. Data (essential information) is taken from literature, video, and visual recordings. Questionnaires, observations, documents, and interviews are used to collect the data. Qualitative research has several types, such as case study, survey study, ethnography study, and literature studies. This workshop is expected to strengthen the implementation of qualitative research in the field of English language teaching and encourage more competent qualitative researchers. humas-red.uns/Ath/Dty
